Batch convert DWG and DXF files back and forth between R14, 2002, 2004 and 2007 versions of DWG used by AutoCAD.
Pros: This application is for batch conversion of drawings between the DWG and DXF that is often required during CAD based work. The application allows batch conversion of a whole lot of drawings. Conversion between these two formats back and forth for various versions of AutoCAD are done easily. Conversion of formats of AutoCAD R14, 2002, 2004 and 2007 versions of DWG used by AutoCAD.
The user interface is simple. User selects the input directory that contains the DXF or the DWG files to be converted. One can browse to select a file. If the user chooses to have the sub directories included, the converted files will be saved in the same directory/sub directory structure as the input one and the program saves the output files in the folders in the same order. There are several versions that can be created that is mainly compatible with specific AutoCAD versions. The batch conversion process is a single click affair, a click on the convert button. The log window in the interface logs the events that happen during the conversion process, which can be aborted at any time. The parameter settings remain, so that if the next batch to be converted has the same requirements, nothing more needs to be done except to click convert. AutoCAD needs to be in operation. A command of “D2D” initiates the converter.
Cons: Support for DWF conversion would have been very useful. This is the web based format and drawing availability in this format helps web based collaboration.
Overall: A well designed and useful application with a simple to use interface that is easy to learn. Clearly this is a 4 star candidate.
